Plot 44 - here we go!

So this is it - my little space! Ok, not-so-little space :-) Everything you see pretty much up to the fence at the top is mine! All mine! All the weeds, the rubbish, the grass, everything :-) (I know you can't see any rubbish but it is there, lurking in the undergrowth!)

So I guess I'm going to have to start with the strimmer.... I think I'll probably put a path up the middle and each side so that my beds are easier to get at. I'm going to mark out some areas to start digging and just do a bit as I'm going along and see how far I get :-) I think I'm going to have to cover the top half with some black plastic to try and kill off all the weeds so I don't know if I'll be able to use the whole plot this year.

All I need now is some sunny weather and a lovely helpful man with big muscles to help me dig..... PAUL!!!! PAUL, DARLING...... :-)

I'd better get going if I'm going to get all my housework done so I can get back out there! See you soon.

Love 'n' hugs,

  1. What you need is a man with a tractor, lol! Or a rotavator. You can probably hire one. Get it done asap and then hopefully you will get a couple of frosts before you need to start planting (frost really helps break up the soil). I follow another allotment blog (Allotment Lady Lives Again). Looking forward to following yours. It may even encourage me to grow some runner beans this year. xx

  3. Oooh Mel, I can't see much card making being done for a while. But c'mon clear a small patch first and get the early veggies in. When you see that first little bit of life emerging you'll be so excited. Can't wait to see how you get on. Is the allotment in the Great Barr/Perry Barr area? Just seem to recognise the fence in the background. Angie xx

  5. What a wonderful moment! Just take it a strip at a time! Dig and clear a small strip and cultivate as much as you can manage at first! Get some potatoes in first, a wonderful way of clearing new ground!

  6. Hmmm; I think that's what's known as a challenge! Strimming it is definitely a good idea but you might also want to think about a hand tool called an Azada which is really good for clearing this sort of overgrowth. Have a look on http://www.get-digging.co.uk/ I've got one and it's fabulous; I take it with me EVERY time I go to the plot.
